Fotis Melathron is the most impressive restaurant of the island and is situated in the Old Town in an ancient two floor building with a multileveled stone made courtyard. It is a special place because of its history:
The Turkish Sultan Soleyman succeeded his father as sultan in September 1520 and began his reign with campaigns against the Christian powers in central Europe and the Mediterranean. Rhodes fell to him, long under the rule of the Knights of St. John, in 1522 the restaurant to be the residence of the Sultan during his stay in Rhodes. The number of seats 500 pax. |
